When the U.S Department of the Interior announced its decision to kick this year’s Solar Decathlon off of the National Mall [4] in January 2011, we doubt they expected such an uproar. One of the competing teams, a collaboration between SCI Arc (The Southern California Institute of Architecture) and the California Institute of Technology [5] is saying enough is enough and is representing themselves, as well as 19 other schools from across the globe, to garner support in getting the competition back to the location that was originally promised. The initiative has already caused quite a stir, and even caught the attention of USA today, the New York Times, and CNBC. The students have allies in congress, including Senator John Kerry, and have been promised that the issue will be brought to the attention of President Obama for a final decision in early March.
