Set in the Cascade foothills of Washington, the Nighthawk Retreat [1] is a solar-powered, earth-sheltered getaway with clean, minimalist lines. The double-skinned vacation home also features thermal insulation, sun shading, fire protection and roll down doors that provide extra security. The cast in place structure [2] designed by Seattle’s Eggleston Farkas Architects [3] was recognized for Sustainable Merit at the Excellence in Concrete Construction Awards.
