Nishorgo Oirabot Nature Centre in Bangladesh is Pierced by Trees

Nishorgo Oirabot is an environmental center in Bangladesh dedicated to education, the promotion of biodiversity, conservation, and eco-friendly tourism. The center believes in furthering its mission by projecting a good sustainable example through its own building, which appears to float amid the forest while gently touching the ground. Nishorgo means 'environment' in Bengali and this fantastic work of architecture by Vitti Sthapati Brindo Ltd. in the middle of the Bon Bhaban Forests stands behind the center's beliefs.
Commissioned by the Ministry of Environment & Forests Bon Bhaban, the Nishorgo Oirabot Nature Interpretation Centre is a building designed and built within great care. In order to minimize the project’s environmental impact, Vitti Sthapati Brindo Ltd. architects decided that only structural walls would rest onto the ground. The elevated concrete structure allows trees to grow freely through its pierced ceiling, giving the impression that it is suspended high in the forest
There is a main reception are at ground level that features an open floor plan and a minimal wooden desk. Access to the first floor and exhibition room is provided by outdoor stairs or a long ramp with a cute bench for resting and breathing fresh air. Big posters on the first floor’s exposed burnt clay brick walls (used as an eco alternative to cement) inform visitors about local natural wonders while providing a space for watching films.
The Nishorgo Oirabot Nature Interpretation Centre has achieved the Aga Khan Award for Architecture and will continue to cherish the local environment while educating visitors within its eco-friendly walls.
