NYC Shuts Down All Mass Transit Due to Hurricane Irene

As Hurricane Irene [4] makes her way north, New Yorkers will be unable to travel via bus, subway, and rail services due to the looming MTA shutdown of all public transit [5] starting at noon on Saturday and likely continuing through Monday. Although this total shut-down seems extreme, with the sheer amount of rain coming and the subway’s history of flooding, it may be the only way to keep it in working order for when Irene makes her way out of the city.
