The Frying Pan

The Frying Pan is actually two boats docked to one another on the Hudson River off of 26th Street. Only for the seafaring, the historic boat upcycled into a watering hole offers plenty of seats with a view from its deck, which also catches a cool breeze on even the hottest days. Share a pitcher of beer, or dive into an order of crab fries from their pub menu grill.

Boat Basin Cafe

Another nautical gem is the Upper West Side’s Boat Basin Café. The bar and restaurant occupies the historic stone arches below 79th Street, formerly used to house marina equipment. The open air restaurant and pub gives New Yorkers an escapist view of local sailboats, coupled with the cooler temperatures of the Hudson River.

Berry Park

If brews areyour thing, head to Williamsburg’s Berry Park, a rooftop oasis that features dozens of exquisite beers on tap. The low-key drinking hall also has German and European style sandwiches and fries, as well as views of the Manhattan skyline. The indoor beer hall downstairs is clad with long family-style tables and benches made from reclaimed wood.

The Ides

If you’re already in Williamsburg and in need of a fancy cocktail, the Ides at the Wythe Hotel is a must. Opened last year, the hotel transformed a red bricked turn of the century factory into a chic destination, with uninterrupted Manhattan views, outdoor seating, and a thirst-quenching classic cocktail list.

230 Fifth

High above Midtown and with stellar views of the Empire State Building, the rooftop bar of 230 Fifth is like a garden oasis in the sky. Lushly planted with greenery and trees, the miniature sky forest offers premium drinks as well as a large array of vegetarian choices, which can be enjoyed in the shade of one of their many giant umbrellas.
