If you're wondering about what to do for St. Patrick's Day this Sunday in NYC , we've got a bevy of fun, green activities that are blessed with the luck o' the Irish. From pub crawls to celtic-themed workouts, there are plenty of ways you can take part in the festivities while minimizing your footprint. Click through our gallery to discover six low-impact ways to enjoy a high-energy St. Patty’s Day in NYC.
Get a head start on the Celtic celebrations by heading to the annual New York City St. Patrick’s day parade up Fifth Avenue, which starts at 44th Street at 11am on March 16th. Join the other 200,000 plus participants on foot to enjoy the festivities. You don’t have to be Irish to join the party, but do wear your best green attire.
Hitting a museum before you visit the bar may sound a bit out of sorts but totally worth the detour. Between 10 am and 5:45 pm on both March 16th and March 17th, the American Museum of Natural History will host a celebration of the world’s food production cycle. The conversation is titled “Our Global Kitchen: Food, Nature, Culture,” and discusses feeding the growing human population. All ages are welcome.
Prior to kicking off your pub crawl, go knee-deep in New York City’s Irish history with a walking tour of the old “Little Ireland”. Experience Irish music, cuisine, shops and culture on foot and ditch the taxi ride. Boredommd is hosting a two hour tour beginning at 11 am meeting at St. Paul’s Chapel at 209 Broadway on the 17th, but you’ll have to make reservations here so they’ll know you’re coming.
Sham-rock your body at New York Sports Club during their free Celtic-themed cross-fit workout. From 9 am to 11 am on St. Patrick’s Day at various locations throughout the city, NYSC trainers will guide participants through a 30 minute circuit workout on the new green turf UXF zones. Put a kick in your step and and get ready to jig instead of jack during this UXF inspired workout featuring Irish jams to get your blood flowing. The session is free, open to NYSC members and non-members, and there will also be giveaways and prizes.
If you want to take your St. Paddy’s day off the beaten path and into a completely new county, La Gringa Taqueria , a Cali-style Mexican joint in Williamsburg, is hosting a movie night with specials on their all-the-way turned up burritos, tacos and quesadillas. Sit among the locals under their backyard tents and watch a selection of of movies from their projector. Sobriety not required.
Find the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow on a Leprechaun Hike hosted by Greenbelt Nature Center on March 17th from 1pm to 2pm in Staten Island. Join this free mile-long hike that is open to ages 7 and up. Register here to participate.
