KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLOSED
This might seem like a no-brainer, but we’re going to tell you anyway. Before the storm hits, make sure your windows are securely closed and if you have anything on your fire escape, balcony or other outdoor area, bring it inside. During the hurricane, stay as far away from your windows as you can and if you’re worried about their structural integrity, you might even want to board them up.

TAKE THE STAIRS
Finally, while it’s important to note that you shouldn’t be moving around anywhere outside of your home during the storm, if you do end up needing to evacuate or walk around for some other reason, do not take the elevator. If the power does end up going out, being stuck inside of a metal box for hours is obviously not going to be fun, so play it safe and just don’t risk it.
