KEEP YOUR WINDOWS CLOSED

This might seem like a no-brainer, but we're going to tell you anyway. Before the storm hits, make sure your windows are securely closed and if you have anything on your fire escape, balcony or other outdoor area, bring it inside. During the hurricane, stay as far away from your windows as you can and if you're worried about their structural integrity, you might even want to board them up.
