This beautiful campus commons in New Paltz is SUNY's new gateway building.

The new Commons was made out of a structural tube stress skin system fitted with ceramic-fritted glass that was digitally enhanced to mimic the nearby Shawagunk tectonic plates. Designed to create a stellar first-impression for anyone entering the campus, it also serves a handful of practical functions as the food canteen, bookstore, entertainment and meeting area, and a place where students and the public can gather informally. It is completely free of columns, and only took two weeks to erect in full. At 12,000 square feet, this gorgeous angular structure is far more welcoming, not to mention green, than the beastly two concrete buildings it is stuck between.
