Art Station Exhibit Repurposes a Gas Station Into a Chelsea Gallery

Curated by Beth Fiore and Rachel Stekson, Art Station is a one-stop shop, fusing art and design with beverage and snack essentials. The exhibition, located in the heart of the Chelsea art district , inquires the tongue-in-cheek question of the importance of location for art to be seen and received.
Art Station chose to repurpose the Lukoil Gas Station as a place to bring together all levels of the art world – attracting both gallery goers, and those who may be intimidated by the elite Chelsea scene. It also doesn’t hurt that the pop-up gallery keeps gas station hours – it is open around the clock.
The work of eleven emerging artists from Brooklyn were interspersed with the gas station’s snacks and goods on countertops, display racks and of course on the walls. Each piece is geared toward the emerging collector, and easy on the wallet. Art Station also offers low-cost multiples for the short of cash, such as trucker hats, t-shirts and inflatable monkeys and ponies with the Art Station logo emblazoned across each piece.
The well- received exhibition was also a way to promote a new Kickstarter grant, which aims to provide Brooklyn artists with access to much needed resources. Launching in mid-October, the Kickstarter grant will provide tools and educational assistance.
The curators are planning more innovative pop-up exhibitions in the near future.
