Gallery: BKLYN Designs 2013: Dog Tag Designs Turns Darth Vader and Old ...

Apparently no object is too strange to be upcycled - at least not for one of our favorite artisans Dog Tag Designs. Founded by Brooklyn-based Tyagi Schwartz, this wildly creative studio finds discarded toys, telephones and other pieces of nostalgia and turns them into eccentric but fully functional lamps, tables and more. Dog Tag will be showing their wares at BKLYN Designs 2013 this week, but read on for a little sneak peek.

Although they are best known for their exciting steampunk meets Salvador Dali lamps, Dog Tag Designs has experimented with furniture as well. A toy dump truck or Darth Vader head, a clock, a bicycle, a telephone or even an old cooking pot – all are fair game for the studio’s playful creations.

And when the upcyling is complete, Tyagi rounds off the design with a dog tag that immortalizes his work in a fun, tongue-in-cheek kind of way that gives each piece an individual identity. We can’t get enough of these guys and can’t wait to see them alongside the rest of Brooklyn’s best from May 10-12 at Dumbo. Join us!
