Gallery: BKLYN Designs Brings the Best Brooklyn-Grown Green Furniture t...

It was no sleep 'til BKLYN for the Inhabitat editors at the International Contemporary Furniture Fair this New York Design week. This year, our favorite Brooklyn-grown design show set up shop at ICFF, and we were on the scene to scope out the fresh crop of locally-made furniture. From luxury chicken coops for the urban hen to beetle-eaten reclaimed tabletops, check out our roundup of the best of BKLYN Designs from the show.

Leave it to Brooklynites to make chicken-keeping trendy. Case in point: this modern solar-powered hen house by Raad.

We’re glad we looked up for a change because otherwise we never would have seen this elegant bamboo lamp by Pickett featuring a pentagram shaped base.

Brian Volk-Zimmerman, the designer behind Volk handmade furniture uses reclaimed organ knobs as drawer pulls on his custom made chests and lines them with leftover cloth from his girlfriend’s fashion job.

Think beetle-eaten barn wood is worthy of the trash heap? Hooker and Co. doesn’t. We checked out their really cool, and surprisingly beautiful table made from reclaimed (formerly) bug-infested wood.
