It seems like every day more and more electric vehicle charging stations are popping up in New York City. Car Charging Group has just announced today that EV charging stations will be available at the Google-owned Icon 111 Eighth Avenue parking facility. The new charging stations are part of the ChargePoint Network and are just one of many recent installations by Icon Parking Systems, the leading provider of parking services in Manhattan.

“We are pleased to announce this installation, which is part of our nationwide rollout of EV charging stations that gives us the opportunity to partner with such forward thinking companies,” said Michael D. Farkas, CEO of Car Charging Group, in a recent press release. The Eighth Avenue location is home to tenants like Nike, WebMD, Sprint, and Barnes&Noble.com.

Car Charging Group has also introduced an interesting business model, whereby the EV charging stations come at no charge to property owners or managers while Car Charging Group retains ownership. This allows drivers to “access convenient locations and partners to realize a percentage of the charging revenue generated.” Best part of all, the charging stations are open to all drivers of plug-in vehicles and all manufacturers of plug-in vehicle charging stations.

Recently, a variety of New York establishment have installed ChargePoint stations, including Element Hotel and even residential co-ops like Seward Park. Outside New York, Chicago unveiled their first solar power charging station, along with Washington DC , and California has also added an impressive 1600 new Coulomb EV charge point stations as well.

Car Charging Group reports that an estimated 40 million plug-in electric vehicles are expected to be on the road by 2030. This is not only great news for consumers, but also an huge step forward in green technology and for environmental sustainability causes. Hopefully in the near future, EV charging stations will be considered the norm rather than the alternative.
