Bar Veloce’s two Manhattan locations are a wine snob’s dream! There’s a decent selection of small plates and an extensive wine, liquor, grappa, beer, and dessert wine list. The bartenders are very knowledgeable, and are happy to make suggestions based on your taste preferences. They even have a few organic bottles, including a 100% organic spumanti called Franciacorta, which has been coined the “champagne” of Italy.

Prospect Park Bandshell

The Prospect Park Bandshell is about as green as a concert venue can get — it’s outside! The Bandshell is located on the Park Slope side of Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, close to the 9th Street entrance, and it’s most know for hosting the Celebrate Brooklyn Performing Arts Festival. From June through August, BRIC Arts Media brings an array of musical performers to the outdoor stage every weekend — all for free! The “lawn” seats 5,000 people, but don’t fret if you’re not there early enough to get in. The only thing separating the designated lawn from the rest of the park is a flimsy little fence, which means you can set up camp outside the perimeter and still enjoy the show. Past performers include Norah Jones, The Roots, Sonic Youth, David Byrne, Deerhoof, and many, many more.

Terroir considers itself to be the “elitist wine bar for everyone,” with two Manhattan locations, consisting of a sizable bar and long communal tables. They offer an extensive list of wines, charcuterie, and other small plates. The wine list, which does include some organically harvested bottles, is lengthy and informative, and is compiled in a silver metal binder. Terroir’s staff is very knowledgeable and is more than happy to allow for tasting, and help you in the selection of a bottle or glass.

The Ten Bells

The Ten Bells, founded in 2008, is a rustic food and wine bar tucked away in the Lower East Side. They offer 50 wines by the bottle, and 15 by the glass that are all natural and organic. The wines are solely produced using sustainable and biodynamic practices. The restaurant menu also includes a selection of cheeses and meats. Make sure to stop at the ATM because Ten Bells is cash only.

Greenhouse is NYC’s first eco-friendly luxury club, and is the prefect mix of sustainability and good old fashioned partying. The venue is applying for LEED certification and boasts such eco-features as a bamboo dance floor, waterless urinals, a recycled glass cocktail tables, and green fabrics. But there’s nothing crunchy about this space. You’ll still find all the same types of plush amenities that other posh NYC clubs have – just the greener versions of them.

The owners of this progressive venue have taken every measure to insure minimal impact on the environment, with sound walls formed from recycled rubber tires, a bar built from salvaged bowling alley lanes, and energy supplied by wind power.
