The venue is best known for hosting the free Shakespeare]]> Built in 1962 as a temporary structure, the open air Delacorte Theater in Central Park has established itself not just as a must-see park fixture, but as an incredibly popular and successful performance space. The venue is best known for hosting the free Shakespeare in the Park series by Joseph Papp Public Theater. The amphitheater seats 1,872 and the stage has a gorgeous backdrop of Turtle Pond and Belvedere Castle. Lines for Shakespeare can be extraordinarily long, with the first people queuing at dawn. The theater has hosted performances from high-profile names such as Meryl Streep, Denzel Washington, Natalie Portman, Philip Seymour Hoffman, and Richard Dreyfuss.

The Stephen Soundheim Theatre (formerly Henry Miller Theater) is New York City's first LEED certified theater and boasts a host of green amenities. The plays inside are just as extravagant and entertaining as at all the other theaters, but you can feel a little]]> The Stephen Soundheim Theatre (formerly Henry Miller Theater) is New York City’s first LEED certified theater and boasts a host of green amenities. The plays inside are just as extravagant and entertaining as at all the other theaters, but you can feel a little better about all those bright lights. Recycled materials were used in the wall panels and baseboard, waterless urinals are installed in the men’s restroom, and local materials were used in the marble flooring and countertops. The 1,055-seat theater hosts Broadway classics like “Bye, Bye, Birdie” and “Anything Goes,” so check out your next play at the Stephen Soundheim LEED certified theater.
