Are you a supercharged eco-crafter who can turn the most innocuous every day material into fabulous works of art? If so, then you should definitely skip over to the Second Life Remix eco-crafting competition at the HI-NY Ballroom on Friday. Modeled after an iron chef event, the competition features participating teams of crafters who will be given discarded materials from Material for the Arts and asked to convert them into glorious art works in a very short amount of time. Help make room for your new gadgets and recycle what you’re no longer using by dropping them off at these locations or drop off your e-waste five days a week at their E-waste Warehouse in Gowanus Brooklyn.

The EVCC highlights retail diversity in the East Village with a comprehensive free guide to retail and services in the neighborhood. The Lower East Side Ecology Center’s EcoBizNYC program helps small businesses in the East Village and Lower East Side reduce air pollution and environmental impacts, and awards sustainability grants bi-annually.

Enjoy an afternoon of repurposing & recycling activities at Load OUT! this weekend in Manhattan. GET costumes, props, furniture & more. Whatever you decide to take away is FREE of charge! The general public will be charged a $5 entrance fee but artists and those affected by Hurricane Sandy are invited to participate for free.

Load OUT! will also feature clothing, textile and e-waste community collections—all open and free for everyone. Donate gently used coats for New York Cares to deliver to the homeless and those in need after the hurricane. Drop-off E-waste, including electronics damaged from hurricane flooding. You can also call 212-228-4670 ASAP to schedule an early donation for Friday, 11/16, 10AM-6PM.

Design Brigade Unveil Table Made from Reclaimed Coney Island Boardwalk Planks at 12×12

Design Brigade is the team behind this beautiful ‘Low Table’ – a gorgeous piece of furniture handcrafted from reclaimed sections of the Coney Island Boardwalk. The creative duo – Lila Baghzouz and Patrick Delorey – constructed the item to highlight the weathered planks of ipe wood, and they employed an assortment of wood lengths to create a unique and dynamic form. Design Brigade is one of 12 contemporary designers who were chosen to create pieces made entirely from reclaimed NYC lumber for the 12×12 Competition. The designers were selected by a panel of judges — including Inhabitat founder Jill Fehrenbacher — to fashion a series of fab designs from the beautifully weathered material.
