Founded in 2004, Build It Green NYC claims to be the only NYC non-profit retail outlet that stocks salvaged and surplus building materials, in an effort to keep these items out of landfills. They offer large household appliances, lighting, flooring, windows, cabinets, and much more, at half the original sale price. All proceeds benefit the the Community Environmental Center’s environmental education programs. In the fall of 2011, the organization opened an additional location in Gowanus, Brooklyn. BIG!NYC’s original reuse center is also open seven days a week in Astoria (3-17 26th Ave., Queens NY 11102). Shop 40-80% off used materials, donate your old kitchen cabinets (& other items), or learn about how we can help remove your unwanted items during your home renovation with our free deconstruction services.

The Landmark Preservation Commission protects our city’s historic buildings, but sometimes, architectural elements must be removed, due to renovations or a building becoming condemned. Since 1980, the LPC has been collecting architectural salvage, stock piling it in their Williamsburg. The warehouse now needs to be cleared out so the building can be turned into affordable housing, meaning that next week, New Yorkers will gain access to the LPC’s extensive collection of architectural salvage in their warehouse clearing auction.

In 2011, BIG!NYC opened it’s second reuse center in NYC in Gowanus (69 9th Street, Brooklyn NY 11215). Shop 40-80% off used materials, donate your old kitchen cabinets (& other items!), or learn about how we can help remove your unwanted items during your home renovation with our free deconstruction services.
