The founder, Eva Radke, who worked in the film business for 15 years, started Film Biz Recycling when she realized just how much waste was being produced by the industry. Now she hopes to set an example for all industries. Radke sells the used film props at the Film Biz Prop Shop in Gowanus, Brooklyn.

RePop is a unique vintage store near Pratt that features charming and random antique pieces from the last 100 years. They claim their stock consists of 95 percent recycled materials. Upon entry, you’ll find dolls’ heads, riding hats, ball gowns, lamps, and art work (just to name a few). Prices are reasonable to moderate, and the collection is so vast, it’s worth taking your time and checking it all out. The store holds an art exhibition/opening party every first Friday of the month, and is now also offering interior design, home rearrangement, and apartment staging services.

The husband and wife owned store is named after their King Charles Spaniel. The store offers vintage and antique jewelry, accessories, housewares, and furniture purchased at New England auctions and estate sales. In addition to solidly constructed furniture, they sell lighting, tableware, art, frames, linens, silver, and more. Some of the jewelry pieces date back to the early 1900s, and there is also a $5 bargain drawer that’s not to be missed. Prices are extremely reasonable, and the staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely worth a visit and it’s likely to become a favorite shopping stop.

Tokyo Joe is a small consignment shop with everything from DKNY to Givenchy. Staff isn’t the friendliest, but there are some good bargains to be had. You really have to search through the small space, but prices are decent, and merchandise is in good condition (if not new) and on trend. All items are consigned by appointment only. In 2009, Tokyo Joe was named the city’s best consignment store by the Village Voice.

There are several retail locations in New York City offering an assorted mix of gently-used clothing, shoes, accessories, housewares, and more. Prices are very reasonable, and there is even a special outlet store in Long Island City that sells items by the pound. Goodwill accepts in-kind donations at each of their stores, and monetary donations online, all of which are tax-deductible.

Angela’s Vintage Boutique is a great East Village gem filled with decorative vintage coats and accessories from the ’40s and ’50s. There is also a decent assortment of bags, belts, and shoes from the ’80s. The merchandise changes often and the owner is usually in-store. She is well-versed in her stock and will direct you towards new pieces, and sometimes bargain with you if an item isn’t marked. Not to be missed!
