We love it when a Solar Decathlon entry evolves from a concept and prototype into an actual, functioning building that is put to good use; that is exactly what is going to happen with City College of New York's 2011 entry to the Department of Energy-sponsored collegiate design competition - Solar Roofpod. Specifically crafted in response to the 1.6 billion feet of unused rooftop space crowning New York City's iconic skyline, this solar-powered micro-dwelling will be installed next to rooftop gardens
