While not your typical entry into the fashion industry, Green-Ingram, a current MTA employee, vended costume jewelry on 125th street before realizing she could mobilize her business in a safer and warmer environment. Her original inspiration was a woman she saw selling clothing out of the trunk of her car during a trip to Los Angeles.
Green-Ingram purchased the truck for $9,000 from a dealer in Philadelphia and enlisted the help of her husband and his friend who installed the boutique’s shelves and wooden floors. The rest, they say, is history.
The boutique – which sits on the highly trafficked 125th Street between Lenox Avenue and Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard Thursdays through Saturdays – offers an array of trendy costume jewelry, accessories, apparel and a small section of men’s items. “I would love to become a household name,” Green-Ingram said to DNAinfo, “so I can be an inspiration to others that they can accomplish their goals.”
