ConEd Green Power Customers Reduced Carbon Emissions By 200,000 Tons in 2010

ConEdision Solutions, New York City’s main power company, recently announced that its renewable energy program cut fossil fuel consumption in 2010 by an amount equivalent to 380,000 barrels of oil. The company calculated that its 23,000 residential and business customers in New York, Massachusetts and Connecticut who purchase ‘Green Power‘ cut carbon emissions by 197,195 tons. The renewable energy comes from wind and water sources in New York state.

To put the numbers in perspective, the impressive payoff is equivalent to motorist in the region driving 400 million fewer miles — the same mileage required to drive two round trips to the sun. The total amount of renewable energy used by ConEdison Solutions customers last year was equal to saving 1,330 acres of forest from deforestation.
