Gallery: CounterEvolution’s Upstate Getaway is Packed With Their Signat...

The folks behind Brooklyn’s CounterEvolution have been creating quality furniture from reclaimed bowling lane wood for a few years. But their inspiration to start the furniture business in the first place came from a cabin that owner Jim Malone constructed in the Catskill Mountains in 2004. Called Little Big North, the cabin is now available to rent as your own personal getaway, and it is chock full of gorgeous reclaimed and recycled woods, giving the cabin a warm, rustic charm.

Located just a short drive from New York City, you and your loved ones can escape to Little Big North’s twelve private wooded acres. The charming log cabin, which spurred the furniture line, has four bedrooms and two full bathrooms to accommodate a large family or group of friends. The front of the cabin has a traditional roofed porch, but the back has an open sun porch on the second floor, that provides shelter to the ground floor porch, where you and your friends can sip drinks in the summer months or sit by a bucket fire in winter.

Inside, the open living room is lit by two giant skylights that shine down from the 21 foot high ceilings. A wood burning stove keeps everyone toasty, and a modern kitchen keeps your guests happily fed. CounterEvolution’s signature recycled furniture can be found throughout the house, including a large dining table with bowling alley patterns that can seat everyone in the house.

The rural Catskill area is great in winter and summer months, attracting hikers, nature lovers, and skiers. Hunter and Windham Mountains are a 25 minute drive, and the quaint towns of Woodstock and Saugerties are nearby. CounterEvolution’s Little Big North is the perfect weekend eco-getaway for New Yorkers to unwind — and CounterEvolution customers get 20% off their rates!
