Escape the Winter Weather at Openhouse Gallery’s Green Pop-Up Park in Nolita!

As pop-ups are on the rise, the Openhouse Gallery seems ahead of the trend. Since 2007, they have created and hosted more pop ups than anyone else in New York City. The second edition of Park Here is a collaborative effort that draws upon Openhouse’s past event and experiential marketing experience to make possible.
The park has been a success thanks to the team’s careful consideration of what makes a park. For one, sunlight is something we all often miss in the winter. Although you won’t be able to get a tan, lighting is supplied by Northern Light Technologies and Party Up Productions that give a sense of warmth. Lawns are also key. American Foliage , a landscape design firm, did a great job using a combination of New Grass and synthetic plants and birds to recreate the feeling of greenery without using any water. Magic Murals provide a lush backdrop with views of actual parks to make the space feel more expansive. Birds also provide a sonar quality to make you really feel you’re in the midst of a lush, hidden space. You may be more than pleasantly surprised by the choice of seating options. Unlike your traditional wooden park bench, a series of bean bags, hammocks, blankets, cushioned chairs and soft stools provide more comfortable alternatives.
Special “Mommy morning” sessions run from 8:30-11am and are reserved exclusively for moms or nannies and their children. The sessions include special activities such as yoga, sing-alongs, and book readings, and adults can enjoy complementary organic teas and Stumptown coffee supplied by Nolita Mart & Espresso Bar.
The park is open to the public daily from noon to 8pm until February 15, 2012, and it is equipped with free wifi. It provides the perfect setting to take refuge from the busy streets or set up shop in a calming environment. If lucky, you may even catch one of the food vendors! Be sure to check Park Here’s event calendar for upcoming shows and special cultural opportunities.
