DESCRIPTION

The first known electrically illuminated Christmas tree was the creation of Edward H. Johnson, an associate of inventor Thomas Edison on December 22, 1882 at his home on Fifth Avenue in New York City, seeing this as a publicity stunt. However, it was published by a Detroit newspaper reporter, and Johnson has become widely regarded as the Father of Electric Christmas Tree Lights.

By 1900, businesses started stringing up Christmas lights behind their windows. Join us for holiday lights from 59th Street to Macy’s, stopping at the city’s greatest shopping store along Fifth Avenue. See amazing displays in windows of FAO Schwartz, Tiffany’s, Louis Vitton, DeBeers, Sak’s Fifth Ave, Bergdorf Goodman, followed by iconic sights in Rockefeller Center, Lord & Taylor, the crafts shops in Bryant Park and the bustling of Herald Square, featuring the spectacular panoramas decorating the historic, landmark Macy’s department store … and so much more.
