DESCRIPTION

Scott Francisco, founder of the Brooklyn Bridge Forest project, joins Green Leaders Global to review a proposal to restore and maintain the Brooklyn Bridge Boardwalk with a new model of sustainable forestry and environmental stewardship. Peter Pinchot from EcoMadera and the Pinchot Institute will join Francisco in his presentation.

The Department of Transportation recently began a four-year, $508 million renovation of the Brooklyn Bridge. Work will include seismic retrofitting, ramp widening, and a new coat of paint. The Brooklyn Bridge Forest project wants to harness this positive momentum and propose a new sustainable strategy for the pedestrian promenade. The group plans to establish and fund a groundbreaking model of sustainable forestry, protecting as many as 10,000 acres of rainforest on behalf of New York City and indigenous stakeholders. The Brooklyn Bridge Forest project presents an opportunity for NYC to consider an alternative method of procuring tropical hardwood for the renovation.

Francisco will give a short presentation about the issue at Green Spaces and then answer questions from the audience in hopes of gaining a wider prospective
