Superstorm Sandy has woken sleeping giants in New York. More convinced now than ever that the city has to plan for future natural disasters, experts will gather at an all day symposium to discuss what sector-specific measures can and must be put in place in order to ensure that the city and its residents will be able to adapt to climate change in the coming decades. Issues that will be addressed include water and waste, power and data, fuel, circulation and other urban concerns. The conference, which will be attended by engineers, city planners, designers and a host of other leading officials who will examine the impact of past and future storms on NYC’s infrastructure, will be hosted by The Landscape Architecture Program of the City College of New York’s Spitzer School of Architecture, with support from the Municipal Art Society, American Society of Landscape Architects New York Chapter, and the Institute for Urban Design. To sign up to attend, visit the Waterproof New York facebook event page.
