Whether you’re an architecture geek or simply a voyeur, don’t miss your chance to get a glimpse into some of the city’s most amazing private spaces during Open House New York Weekend on October 6th and 7th. During those two days, some of the NY’s most fascinating architectural and cultural wonders across five boroughs will welcome curious guests for a rare visit. Visitors will have the unique opportunity to learn, explore and experience some of our city’s greatest buildings from the inside – for free.
The Annual OHNY Weekend was started in 2003 to kick off New York Architecture Week . Modeled after Open House London, OHNY unlocks the city’s architecture and design. Free talks, family activities, and tours by foot, bike and canoe will run all weekend long throughout all corners of the city.
Urban explorers can expect to get unparalleled access to sites like the Grand Lodge of Masons, the Harry F. Sinclair House and the Arsenal in Manhattan, the Pieter Claesen Wyckoff House and Green-Wood Cemetery in Brooklyn, The Hindu Temple Society in Queens and the Woodlawn Cemetery in the Bronx, in addition to dozens of private residences. OHNY doesn’t just include historical architecture though; guests will also see modern green marvels, including the sustainable outposts of Japanese retailer, UNIQLO and private brownstones.
Artist Yoshiko Ebihara will conduct origami architecture workshops for kids at the Japan Society, while other groups of kids can participate in art making workshops at the Park Avenue Street Armory, Children’s Museum or the Eldridge Synagogue.
Although participation is free, reservations are suggested. Architecture nuts can also purchase a Weekend Passport , which grants access to skip lines and get first dibs on all that OHNY Weekend has to offer.
