Winter storm Nemo provided snow sculptors with PLENTY of material for the High Line’s annual Sculpt-Off. Living in a big city like New York, many of us don’t have the yard space (or really any outdoor space) to fully engage in winter time fun, so the High Line’s annual Snow Sculpt-Off lets us city dwellers indulge ourselves in the magic of snowfall.
Teams of five had one hour to build their cold creations. Participants were encouraged to make sculptures of anything from traditional snowmen to dragons. Props – like carrots – were allowed but food coloring and other substances that could seep into the High Line’s irrigation system were off-limits. The contest of course also barred working in plant beds, or using the park’s plants as décor in sculptures.
This year’s Snow Sculpt-Off marks the second year of the popular contest, and set the stage for the High Line as a family fun destination!
