This morning, Foster + Partners sent us word that they recently won the competition to design a new tower for 425 Park Avenue . The tower, which will serve as office space, features sustainable considerations such as landscaped terraces and large windows that will provide natural light as well as panoramic views across Manhattan and Central Park.
You may know Foster + Partners as the firm responsible for the Hearst Tower and 2 World Trade Center , and they will once again be using their distinctive style for 425 Park. When built, the tower will include striking elements such as three illuminated shear walls against a tapered steel-frame tower and its height alone will certainly add a new character to the NYC skyline.
Lord Foster has expressed particular excitement in winning the rights to build at 425 Park Avenue, which is located in the rich architectural district he remembers as a young architect while studying at Yale. Other architectural landmarks in the area include the Seagram Building and Lever House.
While we haven’t heard any news about the energy technologies planned for the building, we have high sustainability hopes for the firm that brought us the world’s first zero-carbon city in Abu Dhabi.
