Move over DVF. If all goes as planned, a spectacular new glass structure could give Diane von Furstenburg’s prismatic penthouse in Meatpacking a run for its money. According to the Real Deal, Zar Property has received a green light from the NYC Landmarks Preservation Commission to start construction on a gorgeous two-story glass duplex addition to the penthouse level of a historic five-story building in Soho.
The Landmarks Preservation Commission approved the 12,000-square-foot addition to the 45,000 square-foot commercial condominium in January. According to the plans, the glass duplex penthouse will have three private terraces totaling 4,000 square feet.
Matthew Berman, partner at Workshop/APD, the designers of the addition, explained that the design scheme was “based in the language of the historic context—specifically the repetition and proportion of architectural elements, the shadows produced by layers on the facade, and divided glazing patterns.”
Construction on the penthouse is scheduled to begin by late summer.
