Yesterday Gov. Coumo signed legislation that will allow small, local booze companies (a.k.a micro-distillers) to sell bottles of their whiskeys, moonshines and other varieties of alcohol at New York farmers markets and fairs. Recognizing the major role that these farm distilleries and the agricultural sector play in New York State’s economy, Cuomo explained that easing restrictions on tastings and sales will “give these distilleries an equal chance to compete in the industry and a better opportunity to reach new customers and grow their businesses.” The law will be effective in 180 days.
