If noshing on yummy organic treats and sipping fresh juices while rocking out to a solar-powered DJ in an Urban Oasis sounds like your kind of party, mark your calendar for the 14th Street Y’s OPENgreenHOUSE, happening this Sunday, September 18th! The 14th Street Y, a Lower East Side institution, has been throwing their annual Open House for some time now but this year, they’re taking it to the next level by greening the whole event. The fair will be open to the public with tons of concerts, activities and fun, all of which will also help educate the community on simple ways to lessen our carbon footprint and support the local businesses in our neighborhood. Oh, and did we mention that the whole thing is totally FREE?
The event will feature everything from music from a solar-powered DJ, a recycled art gallery exhibit, repurposed arts & crafts projects for the kids, healthy lunch demonstrations, children’s concerts on the Y’s rooftop playground and garden and much, much more. And if all of that gets your stomach grumbling, there will be delicious juices, fair trade coffee, and other tasty samples to munch on!
Plus, Inhabitat’s very own stylish Senior Editor, Yuka Yoneda, will be at the event selling vintage, secondhand, and refashioned clothes from her own closet. (If you can’t wait until Sunday to go shopping, you can peak inside Yuka’s closet right now on Clossette.)
The event will run from 10am-3pm on Sunday, September 18th at The 14th Street Y (344 East 14th Street between 1st and 2nd Avenues), so don’t miss it!
