IKEA Extends Free Water Taxi Service to Midtown Location

We have some good news for Midtown Manhattaners who have been waiting for a greener and easier way to get to IKEA in Brooklyn. The Swedish furniture giant is testing a new ferry stop at the East 35th Street Terminal in Murray Hill, and if all goes well, they’ll be extending their free weekend service to that location. The partnership with New York Water Taxi will run every forty minutes from 11:20 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The additional free ferry stop had a soft launch last week and an IKEA spokesperson said the boat was filled to capacity. During the week, the ferry starts at Pier 11 and runs from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., costs $5, and then pays for itself if customers show their ticket and spend more than $10 at IKEA. But on weekends, the service is completely free.
Passengers can return to Manhattan with as many IKEA goods as they can carry out of the store or have them delivered. Just remember to bring your own IKEA blue bag, as the company has long stopped giving out free plastic bags at its stores.
IKEA will make a decision after May 20 as to whether the 35th Street Terminal will be a permanent stop on its water taxi route.
