Millions of people pass through the doors of Manhattan’s glassy Jacob Javits Center each year, but most have no idea what lies right above their heads. While it might not be obvious from below, the sprawling convention center is home to the second largest green roof on a single, free-standing building in the United States. Durham-based company Xero Flor was responsible for transforming 292,000 square feet of the urban rooftop into an energy-saving green haven using sedum grown on a farm in Upstate New York.
