Jean-Georges Veganrichten? NYC veggie-lovers are overjoyed at news that celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten is planning to launch a new vegetarian and vegan restaurant this year. The upcoming eatery, which is being called ABC Home Grown, will be Vongerichten’s 12th in New York and his third collaborative venture with ABC Carpet and Home. The partnership that has already birthed two other popular restaurants – ABC Kitchen and ABC Cocina.
“We’re opening a vegetarian restaurant in the spring – 100% vegetarian, raw, and vegan,” Vongerichten told The New Potato. While there was previous speculation that the new eatery might be in an outer borough, The Post reports that ABC Home Grown will be sticking with its ABC brethren and will take over the former Le Pain Quotidien space at 38 E. 19th St., which connects to ABC Carpet and Home.
The new 4,000 square-foot restaurant will offer a variety of vegan and vegetarian dishes inspired by cuisines from all over the world. As for whether or not Vongerichten adheres to an herbivorous diet himself, he revealed that he opts to go meatless once a week. “The day of the week changes, but one day in the week I eat vegetarian,” he said.
