Rashid and his crew have occupied the 17,000 square ft. space since 1991, and up until recently, the designer lived right upstairs – now he lives 2 blocks away, which we have to say is still a really enviable commute. In many ways, the workplace is more of a museum displaying some of the studio’s best work than an office. For example, the daylight-filled conference room (one of the glass walls is completely open to the street) is chock full of signature Karim Rashid perfume bottles, Method brand soap dispensers and his transparent green Poly chair.
Although most of the walls remain white, with the exception of a strategically placed piece of artwork here or there, the floor takes on a personality that’s right on par with the brand – purple and pink with a pop. To make the most of their collaboration-conducive space, most of the 17 employees who share the office site at communal tables instead of in individual cubicles. We can definitely see how walking into a cheery, light-filled workplace like this one would make anyone more productive, so our kudos to Mr. Rashid and his team for filling their studio with the same sense of wonder that their products evoke.
