Laura Sansone Exemplifies Locavore Fashion With Her Handspun, Plant-Dyed Wares

Laura Sansone is a designer, educator and student of life who holds herself accountable to her local community and the environment in her holistic approach to design. The Mobile Textile Lab has enabled her and her students to experiment with seasonal produce from the city’s various green markets while also researching the public’s reaction to their presence in a space traditionally reserved only for food vendors. Interweaving food production and waste with fashion, Sansone’s innovative closed-loop system strengthens community and social ties in unexpected locations. Our sister site, Ecouterre visited Sansone’s Plattekill, New York studio to explore how nature and local resources inspire her “slow fashion” process.
