DESCRIPTION

Cook+Fox Architects is a New York City studio founded by Rick Cook (architect) and Robert F. Fox, Jr. in 2003. Cook+Fox is best known for designing the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, the first commercial high-rise designed to achieve the United States Green Building Council’s LEED Platinum rating. The firm’s focus on sustainable design incorporates concepts such as biophilia and biomimicry, which use forms and principles found in nature as a foundation for the design process, resulting in architecture that is inherently connected with the outdoor environment.

The firm’s portfolio includes a range of commercial, institutional and residential projects. With a broad focus on stewardship, Cook+Fox has completed multiple projects in New York City’s historic Landmarks districts. Notable works include the redevelopment of Historic Front Street, a revitalization of a 19th century neighborhood that won an AIA-NY/Boston Society of Architects Honor Award for Housing Design; 401 W. 14th Street, a mixed-use building in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District that won an AIA-NY State Award for Adaptive Reuse; and the redevelopment of Henry Miller’s Theatre (now Stephen Soundheim Theatre), a newly constructed theater with a landmarked 1918 façade, LEED Gold certified.
