DESCRIPTION
Rather than a collecting institution like traditional museums, MoMA PS1 is an exhibition space that devotes its energy to “displaying the most experimental art in the world.” Founded in 1971 by Alanna Heiss, MoMA PS1 was originally the Institute for Art and Urban Resources, Inc, and organization focused on creating exhibits in underutilized and abandoned spaces around the city. The institution’s seminal exhibition in its current building, Rooms, established the tradition of artists transforming the building’s room into site-specific art. The museum hosts two popular event series, Warm Up and Saturday Sessions. Warm Up has become one of the city’s most popular summer music events, and Saturday Sessions are dynamic weekly events that include live music, performances, and films.

PS1 is a really amazing museum with truly modern art that is accessible to almost anyone. The Warm Up music series is one of the coolest things that happens in New York City during the summer, it’s a giant party at a museum what could be cooler than that!
I totally agree on the Warm Up parties- they are not to miss. PS 1 does all the edgey and experimental stuff that other museums can’t- like a giant (like 30 feet) rotating mirror on the ceiling, or a room just of mist. Always innovative and experiential!
