DESCRIPTION

The New York City Fire Museum houses one of the nation’s most prominent collections of fire related art and artifacts from the late 18th Century to the present. In its collection, you’ll find painted leather buckets, helmets, parade hats and belts, lanterns and tools, pre-Civil War hand pumped fire engines, horse drawn vehicles, and early motorized apparatus. Even the building is historic — it’s located in a renovated 1904 firehouse.

The NYC Fire Museum is great! I went with my daughter’s school and the whole class enjoyed it. There are models of old fire engines that they can observe. They also have a complete fire fighter outfit for children to try on. There are many pictures and models of the beginnings of the Fire department. There is an area that has been dedicated to all the fire fighters and victims of 9/11. It is very touching and very well prepared. The staff is excellent and they are open to questions on how to prepare for fires and evacuations. As a parent I recommend it, it is very informative for adults and children.
