DESCRIPTION

Based in the Soho Building, Pratima is both a spa and clinic. In the spa, they offer traditional ayurvedic treatments for the body, mind and spirit, performed by their expert ayurvedic therapists. In their clinic, Dr. Pratima Raichur gives ayurvedic consultations to balance a vast array of health and skin concerns. Ayurvedic medicine is holistic; its practice believes that a whole person is made up of many interdependent parts, and if one part of the body is malfunctioning, it disrupts all other parts of that person. Ayurveda concentrates on the source of imbalance, and uses natural treatments to eliminate the root cause and promote a person’s immunity. Ayurveda not only treats physical complaints, but it also changes lifestyle practices to help maintain or improve health, wellness, beauty and optimal living.

Pratima has some amazing products that I swear by – including their neem facial oil which I can’t live without. It always smells great and the atmosphere is very calming, and I think Dr. Raichur has some really great insight into holistic health that most spas and doctors miss. On the downside, it’s pricey and every visit/consultation involves lots of hardsell promotion of their products, so it’s hard to leave without a bag full of expensive lotions and oils!

A little pricey, but going here turned me on to ayurvedic treatments. I took it upon myself to get some neem and sandlewood products based on Dr. Raichur’s advice, and found cheaper ones($4!) direct from India at a store on 1st ave
