DESCRIPTION

Time Landscape is not a gallery, but a public art work example of the Earth/Land Art movement. Created in 1978 by Alan Sonfist, the garden here is a miniature forest of Manhattan vegetation from the 16th Century – the indigenous vegetation before the big bad city came along. You cannot go in, but you can walk the perimeter, and let your mind blur out the cars for a moment to imagine Manhattan as the forest it once was.

I like the concept, you won’t be spending too much time here though. Worth a stop if you’re in the area.

Easy to miss, but I love that 70s land art is still represented in NY
