The world-famous Union Square Greenmarket is one of the mother of all farmer’s markets in New York. At peak season, more than 140 farmers, fishermen, butchers, and bakers sell their goods. It is easy to get to by subway and has an unparalleled selection of delicious, just-picked local vegetables, heritage meats, artisan breads, award-winning wines and cheeses, and a whole mess of plants, flowers, jellies, jams, cookies, and more. It’s the flagship Greenmarket and every locavore’s dream.

I’m always so amazed by the Union Square Greenmarket. It doesn’t matter if I’m just passing through, I always slow down and check out the vendors. The produce stands on the north side have every type of vegetable you could ever want — even those you didn’t even know you wanted! And I can never resist the apple cider doughnuts from Red Jacket Orchards, no matter how hard I try.
