Mayor Bloomberg has announced plans to add 10,000 new EV parking spaces to power New York City’s electric vehicles. The city started testing new curbside vehicle chargers that allow drivers to recharge their batteries in as little as 30 minutes this year in addition to trying out a fleet of all-electric Nissan Leaf taxis. Over the next ten years, the city will continue to electrify even more parking spaces, making it easier for drivers to switch from gas-powered cars to electric vehicles.

Todaym NYC government officials have access to a fleet of nearly 600 electric cars and there are 120 electric plug-in stations for city government vehicles across the city. Electric vehicle charging stations already exist in many of the city’s parking garages, but the big news from Bloomberg’s announcement is the new future curbside vehicle charging stations that will make it even easier for electric car drivers to recharge on the go.
