The amazing designers at Ten Arquitectos have made sure the massive Mercedes House not only respects its inhabitants, but also its surroundings. More than half a city block in mass, the buildingzig zags backwards in order to break up its enormous presence and preserve city side streets. The winding feature of the building also allows for each residential unit to enjoy natural light and air throughout the day.

The most impressive feat of the Mercedes House however, is the numerous roof gardens for nearly every unit. The stacking design resembles a beautiful green stairway to the sky and boasts unrivaled views of DeWitt Clinton Park and the Hudson River. While the building’s additional amazing public garden, sun deck, and mirrored courtyard are nearly finished, the rest of the tower aims to be ready for business this summer.

I was just at this building 2 weeks ago, but only viewed it from the ground and out of the common entertainment room window--had no idea it looked like this! Stairway to green heaven. I'd been told the building had a number of "penthouses" each with their own balconies. But wow, this has to be one of the coolest things I have seen recently!

The rooftop 'Gardens' would be better if they were planted with organic veg that could supply the residents or local restaurants, or species of plants that would support bees and other vital insects for the ecosystem of the city.

Wonderful. Architecture is becoming more organic, integrated with nature as much as possible in the city. I also like the terraces like a stairway to the sky, the sun and the stars. Kudos to Ten Arquitectos and Mercedes House.

I love the look of the terraces & it also gives a sense of space & the possibility of having another avenue of escape should a drastic emergency happen involving the building.
