Gallery: New ASTORIA FLEA & FOOD Weekend Market to Open at Kaufman Asto...

NYC weekend market fans will soon have a new destination to check out starting this May. Long Island City’s popular LIC FLEA & FOOD is teaming up with Kaufman Astoria Studios to present a new shopping and dining destination located at the backlot of the world-famous movie and TV studio in Astoria, Queens. ASTORIA FLEA & FOOD will be the first-ever backlot market in New York City, and will offer visitors an exciting selection of local products, crafts, antiques, arts and eats.

ASTORIA FLEA & FOOD AT KAUFMAN ASTORIA STUDIOS will be located at Kaufman Astoria Studios‘ outdoor backlot on 36th Street between 34th and 35th Avenues, and is set to launch on Sunday, May 4th, 2014. The market will be open every Sunday thereafter for eight consecutive weekends, and may continue on after that as well. The studio is currently home to popular shows like Orange is the New Black, Nurse Jackie, Alpha House and Sesame Street, but the market will be a way to introduce even more visitors to the institution’s history and distinctive place in NYC culture.

“The Kaufman Astoria Studios neighborhood has grown into a wonderfully vibrant center for art, food and culture,” said Studio President Hal Rosenbluth. “Astoria Flea is a terrific addition to our community. We look forward to making our new backlot home to eight great Sundays filled with food, art and fashion.”

“ASTORIA FLEA & FOOD will offer a world-class shopping and culinary experience on the grounds of what has become a world-class film and television studio,” said Queens Borough President Melinda Katz. “Its unique setting and easily accessible location will be attractive to tourists and Queens residents alike. ASTORIA FLEA & FOOD will be an outstanding addition to what is already one of our city’s most vibrant neighborhoods.”
