The South Brooklyn Children's Garden will provide children with an opportunity to plant seeds and watch as they grow into healthy foods they can eat.

Despite the tiny hands that worked the land, the finished plans are on a grand scale. Raised planters will house arugula, beets, carrots, radishes, cabbage and several other healthy, hearty options, while large barrels will store both compost and rain-water harvest. The SBCG aims to create a relationship between wholesome plants and healthy foods for neighborhood children, while simultaneously encouraging future advocates for local ecosystems and the environment.

In addition to the garden itself, the SBCG will offer educational programs for both neighborhood children and local schools. Thanks to the efforts of Green Thumb, The Department of Housing, Preservation and Development and Senator Daniel Squadron, area kids will have a chance to get an early education on the relationship between healthy foods and a healthy lifestyle, ecology and sustainability in one of the most urban and industrial locations in America.
