Local honey is good for all that ails you– allergies, sore throats, colds, not to mention that it’s delicious! The Brooklyn Grange rooftop farm and Rockaway Beach Club have teamed up to host New York City’s first ever Honey Festival, a celebration of local beekeepers. Enjoy honey related concessions, live music, costume parades and fun for the whole family. Plus, the event is free, so be sure to see what the buzz is all about!

The festival kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, September 17th behind the Rockaway Boardwalk Beach Club, next to the 96th Street concessions building. Kids can get their faces painted and enjoy a scavenger hunt, while the adults tuck into the Six Point tent and sample their honey beer. Six Point will even teach you how to brew your own honey beer at home!

Brooklyn Kitchen will be on hand to demonstrate cooking with honey, which you can then buy from local honey vendors. Apiaries from all five boroughs will represent, doling out samples of their sticky sweet goodness. If the beekeepers pique your interest, take part in one of the beekeeping classes and demos that will run throughout the whole day.

Rockaway Beach has already become a summertime cuisine mecca, with stands by such city greats as Brooklyn’s Roberta’s, th Meat Hook, Babycakes, and Vinegar Hill House, and they will all be on hand for the Honey Festival, in addition to sweet honey treats, as well as Honey Mustard pickles by Horman’s Best Pickles.
