In a city filled with pop – up restaurants, food stands, trucks, and a variety of other mobile eating spots, it’s surprising that vegans don’t have a temporary eatery to call their own. But that is about to change, all thanks to the much anticipated opening of Wildflower – the first vegan pop-up restaurant in NYC. Renowned vegan chef Ayinde Howell created the menu, and you better make your reservations now — the eatery will only be open June 10-12!
The restaurant describes itself as “a one-of-a-kind crowd-funded pop-up restaurant that will be bringing 28 courses of the finest plant-based cuisine all with a summer grilling motif.” Howell will be serving up a cross styled set of vegan delicatessens, combining “soul food, street food, and raw fusion cuisine.” If that doesn’t make your mouth water, check out some Howell’s dishes: “Mac & Yease,” “Fire-Kissed Tempeh Chimichurri,” and the tasty sounding “Quinoa Nachos.” See the detailed menu here.
Howell raised the money for Wildflower through the fundraising website Kickstarter. He is a lifelong vegan and has been a vegan chef for more than 12 years. While he wouldn’t call himself an expert on cooking vegan cuisine, he decided to open Wildflower to let people experience vegan cuisine as he as experienced it over his lifetime.
Despite the innovative idea, this vegan eatery will only be here for a limited time; June 10 – 12. Reservations are already being taken, so make sure you don’t miss out!
