green design, eco design, sustainable design, City Harvest Gingerbread Extravaganza, Le Parker Meridien, Great SPhinx gingerbread, Lincoln Memorial gingerbread, Toji Tower gingerbread, Kyotofu, Baked Ideas, Rolling Pin Productions, Chichen Itza gingerbread, Butterfly Bakeshop, North End Grill, Castle Urquhart gingerbread, Norma's, gingerbread hurri-crane [9]

Visitors to Le Parker Meridien’s lobby are greeted with sugary icons [10] from around the world, each handmade by local bakeries. Kyotofu [11]’s candy roofed Toji Tower [12] spans four levels of gingerbread-pagoda goodness referencing traditional Japanese architecture. A candy cane is put in place for the peak of the Buddhist temple, while gingerbread monks mingle in the snow.

Perhaps inspired by the new flick based on our 16th president, Baked Ideas [13] honored Lincoln with a gingerbread tribute to his memorial. The statuesque cookie Abe is clad in blue winter mittens and matching ear muffs made from gingersnaps!

The mysterious Great Sphinx by Rolling Pin Productions [14] is another gingerbread [15] interpretation that caught our eye. Two cookie horses guard the landmark, toting a ginger chariot for an unseen gingerbread man leader. On the other side of the world, the great steps of ziggurat Chichen Itza [16] has been remade out of spicy cookie by Butterfly Bakeshop [17], perhaps chosen to kick off the end of the Mayan calendar this month.

The ruins of Scotland weren’t forgotten, with North End Grill [18]’s rendition of 12th Century Castle Urquhart [19] in the Scottish Highlands. A fondant Lochness Monster swims around the cookie castle.

Perhaps the most recent “landmark” is Le Parker Meridien’s Norma [20]’s Hurri-CRANE [21], representing the broken crane that dangled to the fright of New Yorkers after the hurricane. Located just a block away, Le Parker Meridien was among the buildings evacuated in fear that the crane would further collapse.

The gorgeous display will be at the hotel until January 3rd. Visitors can buy voting tickets for $1, with a chance to win a 5 night stay at the Parker Palm Springs in California. Even if you don’t win, buying a ticket is for a good cause as all proceeds will benefit City Harvest.
